Storengy Deutschland new partner of the H2ercules-Initiative

Storengy Germany participates in Germany's supply security and decarbonization through partnership.

Berlin, 16.08.2023. As a new partner company of the H2ercules-Initiative, Storengy Deutschland is joining forces with other companies in the hydrogen industry. The main goals of the initiative are to accelerate the run-up of the hydrogen economy in Germany in order to accelerate decarbonization and to make the German energy system more robust, thereby contributing to green supply security.

As part of its "SaltHy" project, Storengy Deutschland is planning to build a green hydrogen storage facility at its site in Harsefeld near Hamburg by 2030. Initially, up to 5,000 tonnes of hydrogen will be stored at a depth of around 1,200 to 1,500 meters. The storage facility will thus make an important contribution to the development of a hydrogen infrastructure in northwest Germany and is to be connected to supraregional pipeline networks. In this sense, "SaltHy" is a valuable addition to the H2ercules-Initiative.

Further information on the initiative

The H2ercules-Initiative aims to create the heart of the hydrogen infrastructure in Germany in XXL format by 2030. To this end, RWE, OGE, and other partners are working together across the value chain in order to be able to quickly supply consumers in Germany with hydrogen from the North. In addition to hydrogen production on a gigawatt scale, import routes for green hydrogen are also to be opened. The transport will be implemented via around 1,500 kilometers of pipeline network, mostly based on converted natural gas pipelines.
