Occupational safety: “Take care of yourself and the employees around you!”

Occupational safety is a top priority at Storengy Deutschland. To mark the World Day for Health and Safety at Work, we’re letting our site managers have their say. Because they provide an important function as role models for the teams at our natural gas storage facilities. They have years of experience and valuable expertise when it comes to occupational safety as well as positive behaviour.

Sharing experience:

As a site manager, you have a very important role in preventing accidents. Which main aspect would you most like to emphasise?
 

• Accident prevention starts with consistently implementing the operating and work instructions. All employees, whether internal or external, must be aware of the risks that can occur at work and implement the key elements of the permit-to-work procedure.
   
• As site managers, we act as role models and exemplify safe working behaviour. We need to be attentive every day and plan enough time for the work.
   
• The employees and contractors need to be constantly motivated and also monitored.

The accident statistics at Storengy Deutschland are very good. Why do you think we have managed to keep the accident figures very low so far?
 

• We have a very high acceptance of safety culture. Our employees and service providers consistently follow our safety and operational instructions, which are regularly trained.
   
• We have many long-serving employees with a wealth of experience who pass on their knowledge. Everyone can benefit from this and continuously develop themselves.
   
• The work is supervised on site by experienced Storengy personnel.

What advice can you give to improve health and safety in the workplace?
 

• “Pay attention to yourself and the employees around you!” is the main maxim. We must not let our attentiveness and high safety standards slip.
   
• Any irregularities and possible improvements to the existing instructions must be communicated immediately. At Storengy Deutschland, we’ve established “Take Part” cards so that you can highlight potentially risky behaviour as well as positive behaviour.
   
• Risks can be reduced by discussing the operational procedures in detail at the workplace and pointing out particular issues.
