  • Dr Frank Fischer, Managing Director of Storengy Deutschland GmbH, was elected to the Board of Initiative Energien Speichern e.V. (INES) on 8 November 2023.

  • He succeeds Catherine Gras, former Managing Director of Storengy Deutschland GmbH and INES board member, on 9 November 2023.

Berlin, 8 December 2023. At the INES General Assembly on 8 November 2023, Dr Frank Fischer was elected to the INES board together with Carsten Haack (Trianel Gasspeicher Epe GmbH & Co. KG), Peter Schmidt (EWE Gasspeicher GmbH) and Michael Schmöltzer (Uniper Energy Storage GmbH). At its constituent meeting on 7 December 2023, the Board appointed Mr Haack as Chairman and Mr Schmidt as Deputy Chairman from among its members. The term of office of the newly elected Board runs until 31 December 2025.

Dr Frank Fischer is a newly elected member, while the other board members were confirmed in office. He succeeds Catherine Gras, who withdrew from the management of Storengy Deutschland GmbH at her own request with effect from 30 September 2023 and resigned from her position as a member of the INES Executive Board with effect from 1 October 2023.

In his new role, Dr Frank Fischer will contribute his many years of expertise and experience to strengthen the role of storage systems for security of supply and for the transition to climate neutrality in the form of hydrogen storage systems. ‘I am very much looking forward to working with my industry colleagues on the Board team and am delighted to be able to contribute to such a strong association in a position of responsibility. Gas storage will play a key role in the energy mix of the future, and this needs to be recognised even more,’ says Dr Frank Fischer.

According to INES, the association relies on proven structures to continue the association's successful work and overcome future challenges: ‘In the future, the main focus will be on adapting gas storage facilities to the requirements of the energy transition. On the one hand, gas storage facilities are essential for an affordable and secure gas supply. On the other hand, the implementation of the energy transition and thus an environmentally friendly energy supply will only succeed with the development of sufficient hydrogen storage capacities. Fulfilling both requirements in full poses major challenges for the storage industry and political decision-makers. In INES, policymakers have a reliable partner for finding solutions.’
