Harsefeld natural gas storage facility
Near Hamburg there are two storage caverns of the Storengy storage facility Harsefeld.
The storage facility went into operation in 1992 and has two storage caverns which were built at depths of between 1,100 metres and 1,700 metres in the massive salt of the Harsefeld salt dome.
The impressive cavities are 300 metres high, up to 50 metres in diameter and hold a working gas volume of approx. 110 million m³n. Due to its high injection and withdrawal capacity, the Harsefeld storage facility is used for peak load balancing. With its fast reacting and powerful compressor units and its high withdrawal capacity, Harsefeld is ideally positioned for flexible and reliable gas storage.
